Pain is a sensation that is transmitted from an area of tissue damage or injury
along the sensory nerves to the brain. The brain conveys the information as a sensation
of pain.
Causes
There may be various causes such as a muscle strain, infection or injury. Sometimes
there is no particular cause.
Symptoms of pain
Pain is nothing but an uncomfortable sensation that can be described in various
types such as burning, sharp, throbbing, stabbing, aching, shooting, pulling, tingling,
dull, heavy and tight.
Medical treatment for pain
The treatment depends on the cause of the pain. Symptomatic treatment may be give
temporary relief. But treatment given symptomatically without proper diagnosis can
worsen the condition.
Commonly used pain killers
The commonly used pain killers are Paracetamol; NSAID’s including ibuprofen, aspirin,
naproxen, and acetaminophen. The other types of pain killers are narcotics such
as morphine, codeine etc.
Some of the Ayurvedic Medicines useful in alleviating pain are guggulu, Rasnadi
Kashayam etc.
Lifestyle changes that may be helpful for pain
People who are obese are more prone to pain easily than the ones who have an ideal
weight.
Some qualified professionals recommend certain types of exercise that are useful
in alleviating the pain. For instance, there are certain cases of shoulder pain
or neck pain whose pain has got reduced by practicing certain type of exercise.
That is, this kind of people have already tried the pain killers for a long time,
got symptomatic relief and finally adopted a few exercise to relieve the pain. Remember,
this holds for a few, not to all like in case of deep fractures, injuries or any
other cause.
It is also found that people who are habituated to sedentary life are also prone
to aches and pain easily.
Nutritional supplements for pain
There are certain amino acids that are valuable in relieving the pain. One of these
includes, a synthetic amino acid – D-phenylalanine (DPA).
This DPA decreases pain by blocking the enzymes that break down endorphins and enkephalins,
