Avocado

Avocado is also known as Alligator Pear, palta .Native to Mexico, Guatemala,Jamaica and Cuba, the avocado is now grown in many tropical and subtropical regions of the world such as Israel, and particularly in the fruit-growing regions of Florida and California.The avocado tree may be upright, typically to 30 ft with a stem 12 to 24 in (30-60 cm) in length, or it may be small and dispersal with twigs start secure to the ground. The leaves are dark green with changeable shape . The flowers are pale green or yellow green with borne copiously in racemes close to the stem tips The fruit are pear-shaped. Containing an abundance of vitamins, minerals and oils, avocados are particularly rich in vitamins E, A, B and in potassium. Avocado provides an excellent source of nutritious protein and is often recommended for nursing mothers. It is a good internal lubricator and can be used as a natural remedy for ulcers. It is also known to beautify the skin.

Avocado is a fruit high in lecithin, which is a brain food, and most of its calorific value (80 per cent) comes from easily digested fat, mainly monounsaturated fatty acids. It is very beneficial to people with low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) as it contains manoheptulose, a special type of sugar which depresses secretion of insulin; thus, in contrast to refined white sugar, it actually prevents low blood sugar. For this reason, avocados can be a valuable contribution to weight loss programes as they help to satisfy hunger for long periods of time. They are also a useful ingredient for any food-combining diet as they will combine well with both proteins and starches .

It is also useful in cosmatic products such as skin moisturizer, cleansing cream, makeup base, sunscreen bath oil, and hair conditioner. etc. It gives a quicker feeling of fullness thus helping to reduce overeating. It has high sources of vitamin and mineral as well makes the diet more nutritious and fulfilling and thus more helpful to largely strength and to restraint in utilization. The fruit has monounsaturated fat.Oil expressed from the tissue is rich in vitamins A, B, G and E. It is also useful in cholesterol and control the overweight.

The fruit coat and leaf juice are antibiotic and hence working as a vermifuge and medicine for dysentery.The leaves are helpful in tooth problems such as pyorrhea.As a leaf poultices is to treating cut, wounds, bleeding , inflammations etc. The decoction of the leaf is very beneficial for dyspepsia, dysentery , diarrhea, sore throat , hemorrhage; it supposedly stimulates and regulates menstruation. It is also intoxicated as a stomachic . It should be taken one to two teaspoonfuls twice a day at mealtime . The powder seed is useful for hair problems such as dandruff, hair falls etc. The powder is taken three to six grams once daily. The leaves which are purple-colour acts as a abortificient.
