Description
Bearberry, also called uva ursi, is an evergreen shrub of the Ericaceae family. It has small bitter leaves and produces juicy but insipid berries. It has small shrub.The fruits are red.The leaves are evergreen,shiny, small, and feel thick , stiff with alternately arranged on the stems. The flowers are pink white colors with bell shaped. The leaves gave 0.8-1% of a flavanol glucoside isoquercitin, arbutin and methyl arbutin. Total arbutin content varies from 7.5 to 10.7%, tannin 15 to 20%. Arbutin hyrolyses to hydroquinone a urinay antiseptic. Arbutin is antimicrobial but the crude extract of uva-ursi is more effective than isolated arbutin. It is engrossed in the abdomen and changed into a material with antimicrobial, astringent, and purifier properties. It is found in north america, Europe and Asia.It can grow up 6-12" high and can grow 3-15' broad. Uses
This herb is useful for urinary problems such as infection, swelling, bladder infection, kidney problems,. It is also useful in skin sores, cuts, wounds, and other skin conditions. The dried leaves are beneficial in headaches, stress, nervousness, hysteria, restlessness, narcotic and other nervous disorders. How to Use in Different Diseases
An infusion is useful for urinary infection, bladder, kidney problems, urethritis, cystitis etc. A poultice is useful for skin eruption such as skin sores, cut, wounds, itching, eczema, rashes, swelling etc. An infusion of the leaves has been used as an eyewash, a mouthwash for cankers and sore gums and as a poultice for back pains, rheumatism, burns etc.As a tea forms useful in urinary infection, kidney stones , inflammation, swelling , sprain, obesity etc.
The heavy dose may occur create some problems such as nausea, green urine, bluish-grey skin, vomiting, fever, chills, severe back pain etc
